Date: Friday Evening, Jerusalem, 33 A.D.

Today, history stood still.

Jesus of Nazareth—teacher, miracle worker, and the one many believed to be the Messiah—was crucified outside the city walls of Jerusalem.

He was arrested before dawn. Tried without delay. Sentenced to death by crucifixion. As the sun reached its peak, darkness covered the land. The earth shook. The veil of the temple tore in two.

Witnesses say Jesus cried out, “It is finished.” Moments later, He breathed His last.

Roman guards looked on and whispered, “Surely this man was the Son of God.” Others watched in disbelief, grief, or silence. His followers scattered. His body was laid in a sealed tomb before sundown.

But what did it all mean? For one man—a criminal crucified beside Him—it became the most important day of his life.
